LAX Terminal 5 Is Gone. Where Its Farmers Market Went

This post used to be a recommendation. Terminal 5 had licensed the Original Farmers Market — the 1934 one at Third and Fairfax, the one with the clock tower — and rebuilt a version of it airside, and it was the best food idea at LAX.

It is gone. Terminal 5 handled its last passengers on 28 October 2025 and the building was demolished the following month. There is no food hall, no Loteria stall, no coffee counter, and no terminal.

Which terminal do you actually need?

This is the question behind almost every search that still lands on Terminal 5. If a booking confirmation, a car service or a printed itinerary says T5, it is out of date.

American’s move was the last one, and the terminal closed the same day it finished. The LAX terminal guide has the current layout, and the Terminal 5 page carries the closure detail and the same relocation table.

Spirit is the one worth double-checking. Its check-in and bags are in Terminal 2, but flights have been operating out of the new Midfield Satellite Concourse South, which you reach from inside the secure area rather than from the curb.

What was in the Farmers Market cluster

Three outlets carried the name: Loteria Grill in Farmers Market, a general Farmers Market stall, and Farmer’s Market Coffee To Go. They sat together in departures and worked as a small hall rather than three separate places.

Loteria was the reason to be there. It had a stall at the actual Farmers Market on Fairfax, and the airport version did the same thing — Mexico City-style tacos rather than California-style, corn tortillas, a proper salsa selection, cochinita pibil that tasted like it had spent real time in an oven.

The coffee stand was the underrated one. Not third-wave, not trying to be, but a real cup pulled by someone paying attention, which at 6 AM was worth something.

Seven shops went too, including Magic Johnson Sports, FAO Schwarz, Rip Curl, I Love L.A. and a DFS Duty Free that was unusual for a domestic terminal.

Each of those venues still has a page in the LAX dining directory marked closed, because “it shut when the terminal shut” is a more useful answer than a dead link.

Where to eat instead

There is no replacement for the Farmers Market cluster, and pretending otherwise would be the same mistake this post is correcting. But two things are worth knowing.

Loteria Grill still trades at LAX, in Terminal 7. Same operation, same tacos, counter service. If Loteria was why you were walking to T5, that is where it went.

Terminal 4 is no longer the food desert it was. It used to have three outlets, which was the worst situation at LAX and the reason so many T4 passengers walked next door. American’s arrival changed the calculus, and T4 also connects airside to Terminal 6 and the Tom Bradley terminal, where the actual breadth is.

Whatever you plan, check the LAX TSA wait times first. The airport peaks at 25 minutes on Sunday at 9 AM and logs only 10 quiet hourly slots across the whole week, so there is no hour where you can assume the line is empty and go wandering.

What is being built there

The replacement is not a refurbishment. The old building came down completely and a new one is going up on the same site under the Terminal 4/5 Modernization Program, which merges the Terminal 4 and Terminal 5 entrances into a single 300,000-square-foot headhouse with 16 security lanes.

The practical change for travellers is the connection. The old T4-to-T5 link was a tunnel; the new arrangement puts a post-security connection between the two terminals and on to the Tom Bradley International Terminal above ground.

It is due to open before the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, as part of a $30 billion capital programme that also covers the Automated People Mover and the consolidated rental car facility.

Was it worth it?

The Farmers Market hall was the most interesting food decision LAX has made, and it lasted about a decade. That is a normal lifespan for an airport concession and a short one for an idea that good.

Whether the rebuild brings anything like it back is not knowable yet — concession programmes for a 2028 terminal are not public. What is knowable is that the terminal on your old boarding pass does not exist, and the answer to “where do I go” is Terminal 1, 2 or 4 depending on who you are flying.
